HTH Styria Pitch & Partner 2020

Welcome Messages

Science, innovation and digitization are currently among the most important topics in our region.

With a R&D quota more than 5% of the regional gross domestic product Styria is not only the innovation leader in Austria, but is also among the leading regions in Europe.

There is no other region in Austria, which brings as many innovations to the international market as Styria. It makes me very proud that our companies are successful all over the world. An important factor of our success is the good collaboration between research and competence centers, private enterprises and universities. In Styria there are nine universities, including two universities of applied sciences. Additionally, we participate in 25 out of 42 Austrian “COMpetence centers of Excellent Technologies” (COMET). These centers function as a link between the industry and universities.

Besides mobility and green tech, health tech is an important part of the Styrian core competences. Innovations in the area of health and food technology show a high potential for growth and employment. Therefore, we have four centers of excellence in the field of life science.

Barbara Eibinger-Miedl
Minister for Economy, Tourism, Europe, Science and Research
of the Federal Province of Styria

As co-hosts of the Health Tech Hub Styria Pitch & Partner 2020 we are delighted to welcome you to the beautiful city of Graz in southern Austria. Over the past few decades, the region of Styria has become a genuine hotspot for innovative technologies and leading-edge research in the field of life sciences.

The key drivers of our thriving industry are a close cooperation between universities, research centres and industry as well as highly trained and experienced local scientists, experts and technicians. Together they ensure products and services of the highest quality. With innovators and suppliers covering the whole value chain, we see ourselves as an internationally oriented region constantly striving to form new partnerships and to create value together.

After the highly successful kick-off event in January 2019, we are looking forward to the next edition – Health Tech Hub Styria Pitch & Partner in January 2020. The two-day event has been tailor-made to inform, network and connect promising stakeholders. May it launch many joint projects, open doors and inspire us all!

I look forward to meeting you in person in Graz,

all the best,

Christoph Ludwig

Dear colleagues and friends,

With 5.2% of its GDP for research and development, Styria is the No. 1 region in Europe in this area. This is all thanks to our excellent scientific and industrial environment and to the close collaboration between our companies, universities, research institutes and our political decision makers. In particular, life sciences (medtech, pharma & biotech) have been a key strength in the Styrian economy for many yeras.

We, the human.technology.styria Cluster (HTS) have made a significant contribution to the positive development over the last 15 years. We ensure that synergies are well-utilised in life sciences, and that you and your companies benefit both from one another and from the partnerships with sciences. By networking and establishing stable national and international partnerships, we ensure small, medium-sized and even big businesses can make full use of opportunities in a globalised world.

As business angels, network experts and strategic thinkers, we work to enrich your business! We are looking forward to exchange our experiences in the life science field, as well as to accompany you from an early stage, to overcome barriers to make your business come true.

We warmly welcome you to our network, whose task it is to create added value for the good of business, politics, and most importantly, society as a whole.

General Manager

Dear colleagues and friends,

It is a great pleasure to invite you on behalf of the Medical University of Graz to the HTH-Styria Pitch & Partner 2020 event at the MED CAMPUS Graz.

The Medical University of Graz with its MED CAMPUS offers the perfect setting for such an event as the Campus facilities - firmly embedded in the Medical Science City Graz – provide the perfect infrastructure for preclinical research and teaching in order to attract the best researchers and students to the Medical University of Graz and turn new project ideas into reality.

The HTH-Styria Pitch & Partner 2020 event was planned to foster innovation and exchange between different people, different institutions and even different countries.

This two day event wants to connect people and their ideas in order to gain new innovations and developments within the field of Med Tech and Life Sciences.

Our event will not only enable networking and communication throughout the Med Tech and Life Sciences community, but also contains a strong section to bridge the gap between researchers and companies or potential investors.

We will do our best to make the HTH-Styria Pitch & Partner 2020 event the most memorable event for you.

We very much look forward to hosting you in Graz in January 2020!

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

The Israeli historian and probably the most discussed Futurist Yuval Noah Harari sees two major challenges for humanity in the coming decades: on the one hand the widespread digitization and algorithmisation of all areas of life and, on the other hand, enormous progress in the field of biochemical regulation and control of any individual’s life.

Whether these still philosophical scenarios that Harari describes become eutopian or dystopian reality depends above all on the designers of these developments. At the same time, these topics are also extraordinary opportunities for future-oriented knowledge and business locations.

The city of Graz is committed to clearly defined areas of strength in its economic strategy – including human technology. With the Health Tech Cluster and an excellent Medical University we are optimally positioned here. A vibrant start-up scene, as well as the approximately 60,000 students at eight universities, colleges and colleges, not only shape the city's intellectual climate. In addition, we want to develop Graz into the "healthiest city" in Europe in the next few years.

Therefore, I am particularly pleased that the conference "Health Tech Hub Styria Pitch & Partner 2020" takes place in Graz. I thank everyone who contributed to the planning and implementation of the conference and wish the participants creative and exciting days.

Siegfried Nagl
Mayor of the City of Graz
